Experienced Power System Engineer and Senior Engineer - Network Connections

The Opportunity
ElectraNet is seeking full-time Experienced Power System Engineers and Senior Power System Engineers to join our Network Connections team, based in Adelaide, South Australia. These roles will help shape the secure, reliable and future-focused performance of South Australia’s high-voltage transmission network.
Working across customer connections, power system performance and long-term network planning, you will provide technical advice, assess connection proposals, support Generator Performance Standards negotiations and develop power system models to inform safe, compliant and effective network outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess customer connection proposals and support technical assessments for new network connections.
- Contribute to the negotiation of Generator Performance Standards and connection compliance outcomes.
- Develop and maintain power system models to support system security, capability, operational planning and equipment ratings.
- Provide clear technical advice to internal teams, customers and industry stakeholders.
- For Senior Engineer, provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineers and project teams.
About You
You are and experienced power system professional with strong technical judgement, attention to detail and practical experience across transmission network performance, customer connections, power system planning and modelling.
A successful Experienced Power System Engineer will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above.
- Minimum 7+ years’ experience in power systems, transmission, utilities, network connections or a related engineering environment.
- Strong technical capability in power system analysis, planning, modelling and technical assessments.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, frameworks and analytical techniques to support planning, system design and operational outcomes.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving, communication skills and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
A successful Senior Power System Engineer with bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in transmission network, power systems or related engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience in power system planning, network performance, customer connections and operational support.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data and models to support power system planning, system design and operational outcomes.
- Sound understanding of the economic impact of solutions to complex technical problems.
- Advanced stakeholder influencing skills, with the ability to provide technical leadership and support business improvement outcomes.
In addition, both roles require:
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
- Sound knowledge of transmission system reliability, network performance, substation components and relevant industry requirements, including the NER, ESCOSA, OTR and AEMO guidelines.
- Experience using modelling, analysis and programming tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, AULimit, Python or Matlab.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
