For the Experienced Power Systems Engineer a starting base salary of $147,000pa plus superannuation and bonus eligibility of up to 15%.

The Opportunity

ElectraNet is seeking a full-time Power Systems Engineer and an Experienced Power Systems Engineer to contribute to the secure and reliable operation of South Australia's high-voltage transmission network based in Adelaide, South Australia.


Joining our Network Connections team, you will support customer connection assessments, performance standards, power system modelling and technical analysis that help deliver a secure, reliable and future-ready transmission network.

About You

You are a technically strong and collaborative engineer with experience in power systems, transmission networks and network planning.  You bring sound analytical capability, a practical approach to solving technical challenges and the confidence to engage with a range of stakeholders.  You will enjoy working in a team environment where your contribution supports customer outcomes, network performance and the delivery of a safe and reliable electricity transmission system.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Operational and Technical


Working under general supervision, you will provide technical advice and operational support across customer connections, long-term planning, modelling and system analysis.
Key areas of contribution include:

 

  • Customer connections, including proposal evaluation, technical assessments and negotiation of Performance Standards.
  • Long-term network planning, including planning inputs, market benefit analysis, scenario planning, market modelling and planning reports.
  • Power system models and analysis to support system security, capability, compliance, operational planning, equipment ratings and line ratings.

 

A successful Power Systems Engineer will have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above
  • Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in power systems, transmission, utilities or related engineering environment
  • Experience with customer connections, technical assessments, performance standards or compliance.
  • Ability to apply engineering analysis to planning, design and operational support.
  • Undertake small to medium sized projects delivering to medium term weekly to quarterly timeframe
  • Knowledge of transmission system reliability and performance
  • Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance and operation
  • Well-developed analytical, investigation and problem solving capability
  • Knowledge of legislated industry requirements (NER, ESCOSA, OTR, AEMO Guidelines).
  • Experience with PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, AULimit, Python or similar tools.
  • Ability to undertake programming using Python or similar
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

A successful Experienced Power Systems Engineer will have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above
  • Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in power systems, transmission, utilities or related engineering environment
  • Strong technical capability in power system analysis, planning, or modelling 
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply technical standards and frameworks 
  • Experience assessing customer connections, technical requirements and Generator Performance Standards
  • Knowledge of transmission system reliability and network performance
  • Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance and operation
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including power system modelling and technical analysis
  • Sound knowledge of the National Electricity Rules, ESCOSA, OTR and AEMO requirements
  • Experience with PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, AULimit.
  • Ability to undertake programming using Python or similar
  • Ability to communicate technical information with impact and influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working on engineering small projects for short-term, weekly to quarterly timeframes 
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams 
  • Demonstrable, advanced communication skills and good interpersonal skills
