The Opportunity

The Protection Engineers within the Asset Engineering Secondary Systems team contribute to maintaining a safe and reliable network by providing technical expertise for the ongoing operation and maintenance of protection and control systems across the network. They have a detailed understanding of the technical requirements for operating and maintaining secondary systems devices and schemes and are responsible for network fault management and investigation, monitoring operational performance, interpreting condition information, diagnosing asset failures and rectifying defects. They enjoy collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to formally capture and communicate major findings from investigations enabling continuous improvement to standards and processes. They take ownership of the asset and actively work to improve network performance and manage risk.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:
 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or relevant discipline) with a strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the operations or maintenance of secondary systems
  • Strong understanding of secondary systems design, application and testing practices
  • An understanding of asset life cycle management principles
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard and Operability assessment (HAZOP), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Strong communication skills and have the ability to engage with and influence stakeholders to drive positive outcomes
  • Experience in reliability engineering (statistical analysis) is desirable
