The Opportunity

 

ElectraNet is seeking a full-time Network Planning Engineer/ or Experienced Network Planning Engineer to contribute to the secure and reliable operation of South Australia's high-voltage transmission network based in Adelaide, South Australia.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Network Planning team and play a key role in shaping the future of South Australia’s electricity transmission network. As a Network Planning Engineer, you will contribute to power system planning, network performance, and long-term development, helping ensure the network remains secure, resilient, and fit for purpose. 

 

Working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, you will support customer connection assessments, lead technical analysis, and contribute to network augmentation planning within a regulated environment. You will gain exposure to project portfolio governance and strategic planning initiatives, with opportunities to collaborate across the business and develop your expertise alongside experienced engineers.

About You

 

You are an analytical and collaborative Electrical Engineer with a passion for power systems and problem-solving. You bring strong technical capability, paired with the ability to interpret data and communicate insights effectively.

 

You have an understanding of transmission networks, system performance, and relevant industry standards, with experience to tools such as power system modelling and programming (Python).

 

Importantly, you are a team player who values collaboration, builds strong relationships with stakeholders, and is motivated to contribute to innovative solutions that support a secure and evolving energy network.

 

A successful Network Planning Engineer will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above. 
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a transmission or power system planning related role. 
  • Experience within the power, energy and utilities industries providing economic, financial, regulatory or engineering planning advice.
  • Ability to interpret engineering concepts relating to power system planning and network performance
  • Understanding of transmission system reliability and operational network performance.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, developing and interpreting models.
  • Knowledge of legislated industry requirements (National Electricity Rules, ESCOSA, OTR, AEMO Guidelines).
  • Knowledge of substation and transmission systems components, performance and operation.
  • Proficiency in PSS/E, Python, MS Suite including Visio.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage with stakeholders.

 

A successful Experienced Network Planning Engineer will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above.
  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in a transmission or power system planning related role. 
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical advice on network planning, customer connections or development projects.
  • Strong understanding of transmission system reliability, network performance and operational considerations. 
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including interpretation of complex technical data and models. 
  • Sound knowledge of legislated industry requirements (NER, ESCOSA, AEMO, OTR). 
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical groups.
