The Opportunity
As a full-time Senior Network Protection Engineer based in Adelaide, Australia you’ll play a critical role in designing, analysing and assuring the performance of ElectraNet’s protection and control systems as the power system evolves toward 100% distributed and inverter‑based renewable generation.
You’ll act as a technical subject‑matter expert, providing leadership across protection system design, modelling, simulation and testing; including advanced real‑time digital simulation and hardware‑in‑the‑loop environments. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex work, influence technical standards, and mentor others within a highly specialised team.
Key focus areas include:
- Providing technical leadership for primary protection systems and remedial action schemes
- Developing and maintaining protection and control system models used in protection assessment studies and functional validation across steady‑state, RMS and EMT domains
- Accountability for ElectraNet’s contribution to the General Power System Risk Review (GPSRR) for protection and control systems.
- Supporting network risk reviews and protection planning for new network connections and augmentation.
- Developing technical requirements documents to project teams for protection and remedial action scheme implementation
- Contributing to continuous improvement of technical standards and design manuals
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical capability, curiosity and a collaborative mindset.
You will likely bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience (7+ years)
- Extensive experience in protection systems analysis, design and power system studies
- Capability with industry tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory and RSCAD / RTDS (or the ability to learn quickly)
- Experience contributing to complex technical projects and working across multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication skills and a willingness to share knowledge and mentor others
