The Opportunity
ElectraNet is seeking a Senior Power System Engineer to join our Network Connections team, supporting the secure, reliable and future-focused performance of South Australia’s high-voltage transmission network based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Operating with a high level of autonomy, you will provide specialist technical advice across customer connections, system strength and power system performance.
This role will see you assessing connection proposals, supporting technical assessments, negotiating Generator Performance Standards and developing fit-for-purpose power system models that help maintain a secure and operable transmission network.
- Provide specialist advice across customer connections, power strength, network performance and operational support
- Assess connection proposals, technical requirements and Generator Performance Standards
- Develop and maintain power system models to support system security, capability and reliability
- Influence effective network outcomes through collaboration with internal teams, customers and industry stakeholders
About You
You are an experienced power systems professional with strong technical judgement, attention to detail and experience in transmission network performance, customer connections, power system and modelling.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in transmission networks, power systems or a related engineering discipline
- Experience in power system planning, network performance, customer connections, and operational support
- Knowledge of transmission system reliability and performance
- Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance and operation
- Strong understanding and application of engineering analytical techniques planning, system design and operational support
- Strong understanding and application of physics and mathematical principles in conducting system planning and operational support
- Ability to identify and steer opportunities for business improvement by effectively influencing stakeholders
- Strong understanding of the economic impact of solutions to complex technical problems
- Experience with modelling and analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, AULimit)
- Ability to undertake programming using Python, Matlab or similar
- Sound knowledge of legislated industry requirements (NER, ESCOSA, OTR, AEMO Guidelines)
- Advanced analytical capability and problem solving skills including interpretation of complex technical data and models
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work as a team, influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively
- Willingness to travel as required for site testing and commissioning activities
