The Opportunity
ElectraNet is seeking a Senior Power System Engineer to join our Network Connections team, supporting the secure, reliable and future-focused performance of South Australia’s high-voltage transmission network based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Operating with a high level of autonomy, you will provide specialist technical advice across customer connections, system strength and power system performance.
This role will see you assessing connection proposals, supporting technical assessments, negotiating Generator Performance Standards and developing fit-for-purpose power system models that help maintain a secure and operable transmission network.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & People Leadership
- Lead initiatives and influence decisions to deliver strong technical and business outcomes.
- Guide project teams and mentor engineers across complex power systems activities.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to support effective, compliant and future-focused network outcomes.
Operational & Technical
- Manage customer connections, including technical advice, proposal evaluation, connection assessments and Generator Performance Standards.
- Support long-term planning through planning analysis, market benefits assessment, scenario planning and market modelling.
- Develop planning reports, power system models and specialist analysis to support system security, network capability, compliance and operational planning.
About You
You are an experienced power systems professional with strong technical judgement, attention to detail and experience in transmission network performance, customer connections, power system and modelling.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or above
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in transmission network, power systems or related engineering discipline
- Strong experience in power system planning, network performance, customer connections, and operational support
- Sound knowledge of transmission system reliability, substation components and performance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, interpret complex technical data and models to support power system planning, system design and operational outcomes.
- Strong understanding of the economic impact of solutions to complex technical problems
- Experience using modelling analysis and programming tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, AULimit, Python or Matlab.
- Sound knowledge of legislated industry requirements (NER, ESCOSA, OTR, AEMO)
- Strong communication and stakeholders influencing skills, to support business improvement and collaboration effectively.
- Willingness to travel as required for site testing and commissioning activities.
