Protection Engineer - Experienced and Senior Levels

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Protection Engineer at either an Experienced or Senior level to support current workloads and prepare for several significant projects in the pipeline. This is a market led opportunity, the role and level will be shaped around the capability of the successful candidate, with flexibility to appoint at Experienced or Senior level.


In this role, you will work across the design, review and delivery of protection systems for HV transmission and substation assets. Experienced Engineers will focus on strong independent technical delivery, while Senior Engineers will bring additional capability in technical assurance, design sign off and mentoring with emphasis on quality outcomes and the ability to operate with autonomy.


Based in Adelaide, this full-time role will also cover the following key responsibilities:
•    Preparing protection system designs, scopes, specifications and settings 
•    Reviewing and validating protection designs for compliance and quality 
•    Supporting commissioning and witnessing of protection systems 
•    Working across multiple projects and prioritising competing deadlines 
•    Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders 
•    Ensuring compliance with legislative, safety and industry standards 
•    For Senior level: providing technical assurance, sign off and mentoring support to other engineers

About You

You are a capable protection engineer with experience in HV power systems and secondary systems, looking to either continue developing as a strong independent contributor or step into a senior technical authority role. You are confident working across complex protection environments, value quality and safety, and can be trusted to deliver with minimal supervision.


To be successful, you will bring:
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Protection related role for Experienced level
•    Minimum 7 years’ experience in a Protection related role for Senior level
•    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and eligibility for Engineers Australia membership
•    Strong experience in HV protection system design, review and settings 
•    Proven capability in developing scopes and estimates for protection works 
•    Experience reviewing, assuring and signing off engineering deliverables 
•    Ability to work autonomously across multiple projects 
•    Sound knowledge of Australian electricity industry regulations and standards 
•    Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders
•    A current driver’s licence and flexible approach to working hours

For the Experienced level, we are proud to offer a starting base salary of $147,000pa plus 12% superannuation and bonus eligibility of up to 15%. For the Senior level, we are proud to offer a starting base salary of $168,300pa plus 12% superannuation and bonus eligibility of up to 15%.
