The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to provide technical leadership for substation services and infrastructure. You will have competency in Substation Engineering, clear strategic thinking, effective communication, an ability to build relationships across broad stakeholder groups and engineering and design delivery excellence. You will be a key technical influencer to our stakeholders, regularly generating solutions that continually adapt our substations to provide optimal performance.  

In this role, you will work independently to:
 

  • Provide technical advice and operational support for the design and construction of substation infrastructure
  • Role model in developing innovative substation design solutions and standards 
  • Preparation and peer review of scopes and technical specifications, preliminary or detailed designs, options analysis/risk assessments, and assessing tenders against ElectraNet policies & standards
  • Perform on site supervision and witness commissioning to ensure compliance with ElectraNet standards as required from time to time
  • Participate actively in Safety In Design (SiD) processes and develop risk management strategies for substation infrastructure
  • Undertake technical investigations, problem solving and continuous improvement of organisational guidelines, processes and systems

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:
 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in substation engineering design, construction and commissioning
  • An understanding of asset life cycle management principles
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders to resolve technical problems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to enable you to provide commercially sound and pragmatic solutions
  • An agile and collaborative approach
  • The ability to work within multidisciplined project teams where the substation engineering focus will be on high voltage design, substation layouts, the supporting infrastructure needed for a substation, management of fire risk and environmental issues as well as having an understanding of civil engineering concepts
