The Opportunity
ElectraNet is seeking either an Experienced and/or Senior Network Operations Power System Engineer to contribute to the secure and reliable operation of South Australia's high-voltage transmission network based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Joining our Network Operations and Security team as an Experienced or Senior Operational Power System Engineers you will have exposure and skills in either/or/both:
Near Real Time Studies:
Perform transmission outage assessments for 14 days ahead using Energy Management System (EMS) applications.
Provide timely, practical advice to real-time control room operators and outage planning teams to support safe and reliable system operation.
Communicate and coordinate closely with the control room, asset engineering, maintenance, project delivery, and operational technology teams.
Engage with external stakeholders, including AEMO, SA Power Networks, and connected customers, to support effective outage planning and assessments.
Contribute to weekly network operational reporting meetings and support the development of contingency plans and operating instructions.
Monitor and report on power system compliance and assist in incident investigations and post-fault analysis.
AND/OR
EMS Modelling:
Develop, augment, and implement accurate and reliable electrical models and applications within the EMS.
Perform detailed validation, testing, and quality assurance of model changes before release into production.
Collaborate closely with the Operational Technology team to ensure seamless integration with real-time systems, including SCADA and telemetry infrastructure.
Work with external stakeholders (AEMO, SA Power Networks, connected customers) to support data alignment, model accuracy, and system readiness.
Maintain and enhance the real-time system’s transmission network model and associated databases.
Support operational data flows and ensure model changes meet compliance and operational requirements.
As a part of the Network Operations team these are the key pillars of delivery you will have opportunity to work across. We are looking for Operational Power Systems Engineers that have experience in either of these realms.
Senior Power System Engineer
As a senior member of the team, you will
Lead technical initiatives and mentor team members.
Contribute to strategic planning and operational priorities.
Provide expert advice on system security and network performance.
Collaborate with AEMO and internal teams to establish network limits and contingency plans.
Drive improvements in compliance, modelling, and reporting systems.
Experienced Power System Engineer
As an experienced engineer, you will:
Conduct security and reliability assessments for planned and unplanned events.
Develop contingency plans and operating instructions.
Monitor compliance and assist in incident investigations.
Maintain real-time transmission network models and performance databases.
Support reporting and provide operational feedback for future planning.
About You
We are seeking motivated and proactive individuals with strong customer focus and excellent communication skills. Depending on the level of the role, you will bring the following:
For Senior Power System Engineer
Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline;
Minimum 7 years’ experience in an operational engineering role, with demonstrated capability in network operations.
Comprehensive understanding of legislated industry requirements and compliance obligations.
Comprehensive understanding of system reliability and operational network performance.
Proficiency in Energy Management Systems (EMS), PSS/E, and other specialist analysis tools.
Chartered status or eligibility for Engineers Australia membership highly regarded.
For Experienced Power System Engineer
Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an operational engineering role within the electricity industry.
Advanced analytical, investigation, and problem-solving skills in real-time operations.
Strong understanding of system reliability, substation and network components, and their operation.
Proficiency in interpreting and processing network performance data and providing actionable operational advice.
