The Opportunity
As a Substation Engineer at ElectraNet, you’ll help shape South Australia’s clean-energy future by delivering high-quality concept and detailed designs for greenfield and brownfield substations. Working within a collaborative, multicultural team, you’ll support engineering delivery across the full asset lifecycle, from concept design to asset disposal while ensuring technical excellence, safety, and compliance with ElectraNet’s standards.

What You’ll Do
- Deliver concept and detailed substation designs for greenfield and brownfield projects
- Prepare technical documentation including drawings, reports, and specifications
- Conduct engineering design reviews and support construction commissioning activities
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success
- Contribute to continuous improvement, safety in design, and compliance with standards
About You
You are a qualified Electrical Engineer (degree from an accredited institution and eligible for membership with Engineers Australia) who brings around 3–4 years’ experience in high-voltage substation design, construction, or commissioning. You have a solid understanding of substation configuration, earthing, insulation coordination, and protection & automation systems, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
You’re comfortable using tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, PowerCAD 5 and the Microsoft Office suite, and you enjoy collaborating with diverse stakeholders. A proactive communicator and team player, you thrive in environments that value safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Essential requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (essential)
- Eligible for Engineers Australia membership
- Strong technical understanding of substation engineering principles
- Proven ability to deliver design documentation and reports to a high standard
- Excellent stakeholder and communication skills
Desirable:
- 3+ years’ related engineering experience
- Electricity-industry background
- TAAM licence / White Card (desirable)
