The Opportunity
As a Telecommunications Asset Analyst, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and integrity of ElectraNet’s telecommunications network — a critical enabler of secure electricity transmission across South Australia. This position combines field ready technical expertise with network level analytical capability.
Beyond commissioning, configuration and network optimisation, you will also:
- Apply trade level telecommunications experience to support practical decision making and problem solving in a live operational environment.
- Work hands on with mobile radio systems, understanding how interfaces are created and maintained within an integrated network.
- Support optical fibre operations and maintenance, including the testing and interpretation of OTDR traces to validate fibre condition and identify faults.
- Work with a combination of modern and legacy network technologies, including Nokia and Ericsson, PDH and SDH systems, ensuring continued reliability of critical communications infrastructure.
- Utilise network management systems to interpret alarms, assess network performance, and respond proactively to emerging issues.
- Oversee contractor installation work, conduct on site audits to validate quality and safety, and confidently tackle non compliance or unsafe practices.
- Carry out minor installation tasks yourself when required, contributing to timely restoration and delivery of services.
- Apply strong fault finding techniques to diagnose issues, develop corrective action plans, and ensure reliable service restoration.
About You
You’re a technically capable, hands-on telecommunications professional who thrives in environments where every day brings something new. You enjoy variety — from analysing network performance to visiting sites and rolling up your sleeves when needed — and you take pride in keeping critical network infrastructure running safely and reliably.
What really sets you apart is your blend of practical field experience, strong analytical thinking and your confidence in navigating both technical complexity and real-world conditions. Here’s what makes you shine:
- You bring a solid background as a telecommunications trade or paraprofessional, giving you a practical, grounded understanding of field environments and equipment installation.
- You’re confident working with microwave radio, mobile radio, PDH, SDH and older multiplexer technologies, and you understand how radio and optical systems interface within carrier grade networks.
- You have hands-on experience with optical fibre operations and maintenance, including OTDR testing and fault trace interpretation.
- Your fault finding approach is structured, calm and methodical, enabling you to diagnose issues quickly and develop effective corrective action plans.
- You’re comfortable interpreting alarms and performance data through network management systems and can turn these insights into proactive action.
- You’re confident auditing contractor work — assessing quality, identifying non-compliance, and communicating feedback professionally and constructively.
- You don’t hesitate to carry out minor installation or restoration activities when needed, contributing to efficient and effective network outcomes.
- You recognise poor safety practices instantly and aren’t afraid to speak up to ensure people and assets remain safe.
- You’re adaptable and willing to work outside standard office hours when incidents occur, understanding the critical nature of operational telecommunications in the electricity sector.
- You enjoy a mix of office, field and site-based work, and you’re comfortable planning your own travel and scheduling to meet operational needs.
Ultimately, you’re someone who brings technical depth, initiative and strong communication skills — someone who builds trust quickly, collaborates naturally and genuinely cares about keeping essential infrastructure performing at its best.
